The route begins from the Urkiola pass. After going past the Sanctuary, where you can also park, there is an signpost indicating the route to go up Mount Urkiolagirre. Go past a wire fence and after crossing a copse of birch trees, the path begins to climb gently up the slope covered with pasture land. It will take you about half an hour to reach the peak. There are magnificent view over the limestone landscape of the Park, particularly over the Alluitz ridge directly in front of you. On the Urkiolamendi, there is a geodesic vertex and an orientation table with the names of some of the Urkiola mountains and point in the distance.
The way down from the peak will take you to the Asuntze col, with the Pol-Pol spring and its reddish waters. There is a well-marked path from the col that begins next to a post with various different signs. In roughly a quarter of an hour, it will take you to the Larrano col, with its view of the tiny Santa Barbara Chapel. Larrano is a pleasant, grassy spot that is halfway along the Allutiz-Anboto ridge. You can see the Atxondo valley below you and the spectacular and dangerous ridge that leads up to the top of Mount Alluitz.
After returning to the Asuntze col, the path that makes its way along the southern slope of Urkiolagirre will take you back to the Urkiola pass.
